2026/27 J1 League Season

image.png

The transitional tournament is over.

The regional groups are gone. Drawn matches will no longer be followed by penalty shootouts, and clubs can no longer experiment knowing there is no relegation waiting for them. It was fun and filled the gap but the real business now starts

The 2026/27 J1 League begins on Friday 7 August 2026, becoming the first full Japanese season played across an August-to-June calendar.

Twenty clubs. Thirty-eight matches each. A winter break in the middle. Three teams relegated at the end.

From a Sorare point of view, J1 is no longer the convenient summer league that rescued our lineups while most of Europe was sitting on a beach.

Sorare has also released a gameplay update for the 2027 season which includes changes when the cards are useful, how we build our squads and where the value may appear.

Teams

The newly promoted teams are JEF United Chiba, Mito Hollyhock and V Varen Nagasaki.

All 3 are decent and expected to be competitive in J1, though realistically avoiding relegation will be their initial aims. Mito are highly aggressive counter attack team and somewhat surprise winners last season.

Nagasaki have a formidable squad already packed with J league experience like midfielders Yamaguchi and Pituca who together compliment each other so well. Matheus Jesus is the player to watch. Has impressed me heaps with his lighting speed and skills that cause havoc. Nagasaki owners are also flush with cash and wanting to build.

JEF United Chiba came up through the playoffs. After countless years of nearly getting promoted, they final did it with a narrow 1-0 win vs Tokushima. They struggled in the transition season and have bought big in the off season. They picked up Hall as CB and explosive brazilian striker Erison up top.

J1 2025 Review

The championship was decided on the final day, with Kashima Antlers securing their record-extending 9th J1 title following a narrow 2–1 victory over Yokohama F. Marinos. Under the tactical guidance of Toru Oniki, who became the first manager to win the J.League with two different clubs, Kashima finished with 76 points, just one point ahead of runners-up Kashiwa Reysol.

  • Kashima Antlers (1st): Built on a 15-match unbeaten run, they combined defensive organization with the clinical finishing of Leo Ceara.

  • Kashiwa Reysol (2nd): Pushed the race to the wire with a four-game winning streak to end the season, securing a spot in the AFC Champions League Elite.

J1 League and Sorare 27

Sorare has confirmed that new 2026/27 J.League In-Season cards will be released and that J1 retains dedicated competitions in Sorare 27.

For Limited and Rare, J.League will have:

  • Its own Pro Hot Streak

  • Its own Limited Arena

  • Its own Rare Arena

For Super Rare and Unique, J.League players will compete in the wider Rest of the World Arena alongside the Scottish Premiership, English second division, Austrian Bundesliga, Croatian HNL, 2. Bundesliga and selected Ligue 2 clubs.

That distinction matters.

Limited and Rare managers can build specifically around J1.

Super Rare managers are not buying for a pure Japanese competition. They are selecting Japanese players capable of beating the best scorers from several different leagues.

That could create opportunity once the initial hype settles.

J.League Cards Launch on 29 July

New J.League cards are scheduled to enter Early Access on 29 July, alongside the 2. Bundesliga and selected Ligue 2 clubs.

That gives managers just over one week between the first cards appearing and the opening J1 match.
